Vancouver Massage Therapy RMT: Jordana Kirkman

Jordana Kirkman is the most recent addition to the Broadway Wellness team of RMT’s. Cousin of Monica Cleland, owner / founder of Broadway Wellness, Jordana comes with a fun personality, and a passion for her work – she has been quickly and warmly welcomed to our team. Jordana comes to the table with a brilliant mind and a passion for new information to integrate into her practice.

As of late, Jordana’s passion lies with combining her years of experience and training in fascial release (a therapy which releases restrictions, adhesions, and lines of tension in the connective tissue layer) with her more recent training in Tuina (uses the traditional Chinese medical theory of the flow of Qi through the meridians as its basic therapeutic orientation) to work on various ailments, including asthma – as outlined below, with an integrated fascial and meridian-based approach. Below is a short article written by Jordana herself.

“In basic terms, Asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition of the airways in the lungs. How can a Registered Massage Therapist who manipulates soft tissue help? They can help by releasing the adhesions and restrictions in fascial tissue that surrounds, supports and intertwines with the associated soft tissues and structures of the lungs. Some of these tissues are, but are not limited too, the pectorals, scalenes, diagphram, trachea, esophagus, thoracic spine, ribs, pleura of the lungs and intercostals. Over time, the chronic inflammation characterized by asthma will create a hardening of the lungs and its associated structures and soft tissues. The hardening restricts your rib cage, binding it so you physically cannot take a deeper breath. By working with the fascia tissue of the the associated soft tissue and structures, an RMT can create a softening so that the rib cage is not so hardened and bound down. This does not necessarily eliminate the need for an inhaler, but it certainly can help the associated structures to move more freely as we need them in order to breath comfortably and fully”.
