Tip of the Week: Hydration


Did you know the human body can only absorb 4 ounces (120ml) of water every 15 minutes?

Do you ever guzzle down a bottle of water and think that should keep you hydrated for a few hours? Think again!

The body can only accommodate the absorption of 4 ounces of water every 15 minutes. By consuming any more than that, you are tasking your body with another job in sorting out how to process the extra volume. The excess liquid will generally pass right through you, but because the extra water content dilutes our system and can throw off your body’s pH, this has to be corrected first to facilitate absorption into the kidneys. For the body to recalibrate its pH, it will utilize stored minerals. Unfortunately in this day and age, these minerals are often in short supply, so as a result of expelling the extra water we can also wind up mineral deficient.

Have your water bottle on hand throughout the day, sip slowly, and enjoy!
