There are lots of positive reasons why walking or biking to school or work is a good idea. Of course, it is the healthier choice, it reduces our carbon emissions, and reduces the number of cars on the road for safer travel… to name a few. But what about the affect that it can have on performance once we get to school or work?
A Danish study has concluded that children who get a little exercise in on the way to school perform better with a higher level of concentration compared to other kids who are driven. The children were taken through a number of exercises/tasks that were reliant on concentration. Many factors were considered but the children who exercise on the way to school scored much higher.
We are always told as kids to never skip breakfast. Well, this study also was able to show that while having breakfast did benefit the child it was a slight change in comparison to those who exercise in the morning.
