A Spotlight on Arthritis

Vancouver RMT Article of the Week

The Globe And Mail recently published a piece highlighting some unfortunate truths regarding arthritis. There are about 100 different types of arthritis, but they are founded on a disease which effects the joints, as well as the bones and muscles in the area. The pain that often occurs for those with arthritis is due to the inflammation in the joint, damage to the joint itself, and strain in the associated muscle systems.

Most people view arthritis as something that only effects the elderly, but this is no longer the case. The article expresses that more than four million Canadians have some form of the disease, and some starting at quite a young age. In an interview with a UBC professor, she targets arthritis as “the most disabling condition in Canada.” This is something that is also often over looked. The article People in the dark about arthritis, ‘the most disabling condition in Canada’ seeks to be an education. It’s very informative and worth the read!

Massage therapy has been touted by the Arthritis Foundation as an effective complementary therapy in relieving pain, stiffness and improving range of motion for those with arthritis. The Vancouver RMTs at Broadway Wellness are all registered, trained and very talented across a spectrum of massage therapy techniques. Of course, it is always very important to communicate and be open with your therapists when it comes to your condition and any discomfort you experience. We are here to help!
