Forest Time to Calm the Mind

Have you ever stepped foot in a beautiful grove of tall trees, and noticed a sense of calm? You wouldn’t be wrong. Scientific studies have proven that even as little as 20 minutes in a forest is enough to noticeably reduce both cortisol levels, and stress and anxiety inducing excitatory neurotransmitters levels. forest

Similar studies have also shown that those who spend their outside time in a primarily urban setting take up to an hour to get out of a state of rumination, whereas those who spend outside time in more rural, forested areas only require 20 minutes to let go of that state.

When you are stuck ruminating the same anxiety provoking thoughts, it is difficult to move past the anxiety into a more productive place of clarity and decision making.

It seems that in such a fast paced world, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who hasn’t been affected by anxiety. Try stepping out into the trees, and feel the calm. 20 minutes is the magic number!
